Audium - any Friday or Saturday night

I think this sounds really cool, check it out....
"a dark and eerie sound labyrinth leads you into a small performance space where 169 speakers are suspended from the ceiling, and hidden behind sloping walls, under chairs, and beneath a floating floor. you sit in total darkness and are bathed in pure, moving "sound sculptures." ocean waves. children frolicking. you're experiencing audium. fifteen bucks will get you this brain massage inside their 49-seat theatre. consider it a secret destination (a building within a building, really) that's entirely space-aged and retro. performances are a combo of art and technology. no cimema. no live concert. just sound. bouncing from structure to structure. not your typical night out, no doubt. (can you say close encounters of the third kind? yes. and you should.)"
audium tickets:
$15 live performances starts at 8:30 p.m. most fridays and saturdays
box office opens at 8 p.m.

Martin Amis in Conversation - Wednesday, January 24th
I have to admit I've never read any of Martin Amis's books, but thought it would be interesting to see him speak. Maybe it will even inspire me to read something of his!
He's speaking at the JCC in SF on Wednesday, January 24th and Goldstar has tix for $5. I know they'll sell out fast at such a great price so I went ahead and got 2 tickets. Whoever RSVP's first gets to go with me. If you miss that go ahead and get tix yourself at Goldstar or from the JCC if Goldstar is sold out.

The Independent, 628 Divisadero St, SF CAPlus High Stakes Charity Dreydl$12 in advance / $15 day of show 21+8PM Doors, Cocktails and Latkas
The night starts with Cocktails and Latkas upstairs in the Independent Balcony. Then, turn the Festival of Lights into the Festival of Rights with a unique menorah lighting by local social justice activists, during which they'll share a "right" they fight for. Past lightings have included Gordon Mar of the Chinese Progressive Association, Mike Casey of Unite Here union, and Rabbi Dorothy Richman.
Eastern European folk-punk auteurs Golem (named after the legendary Jewish Frankenstein of Prague) will take the stage with a live performance that will electrify the night and whip crowds into a singing, dancing frenzy. Golem's racked up early raves for their electrifying sophomore LP Fresh Off Boat (released August 22nd on JDub Records), a motley, multi-lingual brew of Jewish, Slavic, and Gypsy music played with the abandon of a New York punk band. "The group's sultry bounce practically insists that you dance along" -Time Out NY
The Conspiracy Of Beards, based in San Francisco, are a 30 member a cappella male choir that exclusively performs the songs of Leonard Cohen. Inspired by late artist Peter Kadyk and directed by Daryl Henline, the group performs gritty yet uplifting renditions of Cohen's songs. Started in 2003 by Henline and Patrick Kadyk, the group has performed to enthusiastic audiences around the Bay Area including SFMOMA, Café Du Nord and the NPR program West Coast Live.
Throughout the night, participants can buy chips to gamble their way through High Stakes Charity Dreydl. Prizes will be given out to the highest grossing dreydl-ers and include a night for two at the Healdsburg Hotel. Chip purchases will benefit The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, an Oakland-based non-profit that promotes alternatives to violence and incarceration through cutting-edge campaigns and initiatives.
