Passover Seder @ Wise Sons Deli - Fri, 4/6

While I'm out of the habit of putting on my own Seder dinner, Passover is still my favorite holiday to celebrate.  So when I saw that the new, cool deli in the Mission, Wise Son's, was having a Seder it sounded perfect.  Anyone interested in joining me?

FYI, for my veggie friends out there I asked if they would have vegetarian options and they said:

"We will have a number of vegetarian options. We will definitely have mock liver, vegetarian matzoh ball soup, and a matzo kugel with roasted vegetables for those who do not eat brisket or chicken."

I have no idea how quickly this will book up, but I think we should sign up soon.  It's $65 for dinner and $25 for the wine pairings.  Note that I'd prefer to go on Friday 4/6, but it's also going on 4/7 and 4/8.

Treasure Island Flea Market - Sat/Sun 2/25-26

A Taste of the Ice Cream Bar - Weds, 2/29

Just read about this cool event at the new "Ice Cream Bar" in Cole Valley.  Here's what they say about it:

"Soda fountains were as prevalent as saloons in the U.S. until they fell out of fashion. Luckily, The Ice Cream Bar in Cole Valley is bringing back the tradition of the soda jerks and handmade, artisanal drink ingredients. And they're doing so in style with a vintage aesthetic that carries from the art deco letter styling to the black lacquered tabletops.

The Ice Cream Bar makes high-quality sodas and sundaes using recipes dating back to the 1800s, with a staggering variety of tinctures and techniques. For the bar menu, owner Juliet Pries turned to Rickhouse bartender Russell Davis to recreate drinks that have long gone out of style, including frappes, malts, phosphates, lactarts, egg creams, and panaceas (sodas with healing properties).

Come out and meet Juliet, Russel, and ice cream maker Ray Lai and learn a little something about the unexpected history of the soda fountain. You'll get to sample their most popular concoctions – including one of their elaborate sodas, a small version of their famous sundaes, and their house made candies – and learn a bit about how they're made as well at this private event for Bold Italic readers.

Attire: Vintage chic. Wear your fedoras, bow ties, and best flea market finds."

I went there on opening day and it's a pretty awesome place.  Delicious ice cream in an old timey atmosphere.  Anyone interested in going?

I went to the Sing-A-Long Sound of Music at the Castro Theatre a few years back and it was fabulous.  It's going on 11/25 through 12/4, but I think the best time for me will be on Thursday 12/1.  The show is at 7pm.  Anyone interested?

Howdy friends, the schedule for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is up, so now it's time to decide where to camp out. Here are lots of great options, it's hard to pick. I'm leaning towards Rooster on Friday, and Rooster or Towers of Gold on Saturday and Sunday, but I'm open to suggestions. Let me know if you have any preferences.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass - 9/30 - 10/2

It's time again for my favorite event of the year!  Usually I skip the Friday show since it's only a half day, but this year it's a full day and the line up looks great so I'm going to see if I can get the day off.  For sure I'll be going on Saturday and Sunday though, and I'll be there early to get a great spot.  They haven't announce the stages yet, so I'll wait to decide where to camp out until then.  Let me know if you're going though so I can keep you in the loop about where I'll be and how to find me!  And definitely let me know if you're interested in going early and joining me for "breakfast" at HSB.

Take a look to see the line-up by day:  http://www.strictlybluegrass.com/

Problem with replying to messages

Hi all,
I've just recently heard from someone subscribed to my blog that whenever they tried to reply to my messages that they get a bounce back message from Google Groups that the group doesn't accept emails to owners or managers. I don't know what's gone wrong, and I'm so sorry if any of you have been responding to my messages but not ever hearing back from me.
I've tried making some changes to see if it will fix the problem. If you want, please reply to this message and see what happens .
xoxo...Susan

Off the Grid @ Golden Gate Fields - Saturday 8/27

Two of my favorite things, food trucks and horse racing, are coming together next Saturday at Golden Gate Fields. It's also going on for the following three Saturdays ( 9/3, 9/10, and 9/17) so I'm open to go another Satuday as well or instead. Let me know if you want to join me!

SF Street Food Fest - Saturday, 8/20

Okay, so I checked out the SF Street Food Festival the first year and it was too crowded so I gave up. But I thought I should try it out again. Anyone interested in giving it a go with me?

SF Opera @ Stern Grove - Sunday 8/21

It's the last show of the summar at Stern Grove this Sunday and the San Francisco Opera is performing (arias and solos). I'll be going early with Julie to get a good spot, so let me know if you're coming and I'll save some space for you. Show starts at 2, but if it's a popular show they stop letting people in before then, sometimes as early as noon.

SF Ballet @ Stern Grove - Sunday, 7/31

This Sunday the San Francisco Ballet is performing at Stern Grove. I'm hoping for another lovely day there. Who wants to join me?

Bay to Breakers - Sunday, May 15th

It's getting time to start preparing for Bay to Breakers! Our concept this year is High School Undead (I'll be a Marching Band Geek vampire or zombie... the picture above is me as a Vampirate last year, I sense a theme!).
Some of you may have heard me talk about Marching Band vs. Cheerleaders, but Kiley and Lindsay suggested this change and I thought it sounded great. This idea may also maybe more practical as I haven't seen a lot in the way of Marching Band costumes out there (although I'd love some fellow band geeks if you find one). Kiley did find great, inexpensive cheerleading uniforms at this site. She and Lindsay are going to be cheerleaders, probably with Sunnydale High colors...for you Buffy geeks out there ;-)
So, the next big question this year is whether or not to register. The word is that they're going to enforce registrations this year, but they say that every year and it never seems to happen. I went ahead and registered anyhow as it makes sense to me to contribute since I'll be participating and it definitely costs a lot to put this event on (even just the porta potties must cost a fortune!). Anyhow, I leave it to you, but here the link to register.

Kevin Starr on the Golden Gate Bridge @ the JCC - Weds, 2/2

I'm kind of a geek about SF history, and this sounds fun. Here's what the JCC says about it:

"In 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge rose high above the Bay Area, linking the urbanity of San Francisco with the wild headlands of Marin County. Join Kevin Starr, one of America's most celebrated historians, as he provides an intriguing account of the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. Discover the significance of it's construction and the statement the great landmark made about America's engineering prowess"

Anyone want to join me?

Hand Car Regatta in Santa Rosa - Sunday, Sept 26th

I've been dying to check out the Handcar Regatta in Santa Rosa since I heard about it last year. I'm not sure how to describe it, especially since I haven't been yet, but it seems to be a steam punk-y, costume-y, kind of event! I'll definitely be treking up north next Sunday for it, so let me know if you'd like to come along! I may even dress up...

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass - Saturday & Sunday, 10/2 & 10/3

I'm so excited that it's almost time for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass again, and it's the 10th anniversary this year!!!  I'm planning to go on Saturday and Sunday (but it's also going on Friday for those of you who are free).  Julie and I will be getting there early both days to get a sweet spot.  Feel free to come early or late, but let me know if you're coming so I can keep you updated on our location.  They haven't announced who's performing at which stages yet, which will help me decide where I want to camp out each day, but I usually pick one of the smaller stages.

For those of you who haven't gone before, I think that this is the best music festival, and one of my absolute favorite things to do in San Francisco!  It's at Speedway, Lindley & Marx meadows in Golden Gate Park and it's absolutely free.  You can buy food there, but you can bring any food or drink (including alcohol) that you like.  I hope you'll join me...

Off The Grid @ Fort Mason - Friday, September 3rd

I'm finally going to check out the Off The Grid street food festival this Friday at Fort Mason from 5-9.  I'm feeling very inspired after the Eat Real Festival this past Sunday.  I'll head over right after work, so will probably get there around 5:30.  Let me know if you want to join me!

Big Gay Ice Cream Jamboree @ Humphry Slocombe - Sunday, August 22nd

The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck from NYC is coming to SF and doing a special event at Humphry Slocombe Sunday night at 7:00.  Oh, and Jane Wiedlin is going to be there too!!!  What can be bad about that?  Let me know if you want to join me

Eat Real Festival @ Jack London Square - Sunday, August 29th

Went to the Eat Real festival last year and it was fantastic, so I'm definitely going again this year.  It's both Saturday and Sunday, but I'm planning for Sunday.  I'd like to take the ferry there and I think that the one that leaves the Ferry Building at 11:50 arriving at Jack London Square at 12:20 seems perfect!  Who wants to join me?

Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Saturday, August 7th

It's time for another Film Night in the Park (well actually, I haven't been to any so far this summer... boo!).  I'm going to be out wine tasting all day, but I'm sure I'll be back in time for the show.  Now, I'll bet it will be freezing cold, but if we bundle up, and drink lots of wine, I'm sure we'll survive.  Who will brave the cold and join me?

Monday, August 02, 2010

Lower Haight Art Walk - Friday, August 6th

Looking forward to checking out the Artwalk here in my neighborhood.  There will be food carts, art, bands, and a scavenger hunt!!!  Come with me.

Renegade Craft Fair @ Fort Mason - Sat & Sun, July 31 & Aug 1

Woo hoo... it's time for another Renegade Craft Fair! It's next Saturday and Sunday (July 31st and August 1st) from 11 to 7 at Fort Mason. I haven't decided yet which day to go yet, so your response will very likely influence my decision ;-)

SF Opera Aida Simulcast @ AT&T Park - Friday, September 24th

Okay, this is being promoted way ahead of time, but I'm passing along already anyhow. I went to this last year and it was very cool, although by the end I was shouting "Die Already!" and went home about one aria away from the finale ;-) Needless to say Operas are a bit long, but that's what is so great about seeing it for free at the ballpark.

This year they're doing Aida, and I'm hoping that I'll recognize many of the songs. Now even though it's free you do have to RSVP, which I've already done for 4 people... one of those spots is yours if you want it (just let me know).

We'll be meeting up at my place, conveniently a few blocks from the route, for a bite to eat before the race starts, will head to watch the runners go by, then join the costumed & drunken masses! Costumed or not, let me know if you'd like to join in!

Fantasic Mr. Fox @ The Independent - Monday, April 5th

The Independent is showing Fantastic Mr. Fox on their Monday free movie night coming up on April 5th. I never got around to see this in the theater, but I'm a big Wes Anderson fan, so I'd really love to see it... and it's FREE (unless you decide to get a cocktail... which is even better)! Who's in?
